CiCi’s Pizza, LLC, is one of the fastest growing pizza franchises in the U.S. with 600+ restaurants in 36 states and plans to add another 500 restaurants over the next decade.
CiCi’s mobile workforce relied on Blackberry devices and a backend infrastructure that included IBM Lotus Domino servers and the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) for mobile mail services to corporate and franchise users. The company sought increased mobile functionality and device choice.
RunMobile engineers upgraded the Domino environment (from R7.0 to R8.5.1), which enabled the company to look at new options for mobile messaging and new devices.
In conjunction with the Domino upgrade, RunMobile installed and configured Lotus Traveler, which provided e-mail, calendar, address book, journal and ‘to-do’ services to mobile users. A small pilot group was chosen to test these services using the iPhone from Apple.
The testers expressed a strong preference for the iPhone over the Blackberry, so the company decided to migrate its entire mobile user group to iPhone and Lotus Traveler. RunMobile led the migration and transitioned the company off of Blackberry within 45 days.
With the assistance of RunMobile, CiCi’s mobile workforce quickly adopted the iPhone. Corporate and franchise users report a high level of satisfaction with the new device.
The company was able to retire its Blackberry server and associated server and user licensing fees, reducing CiCi’s overall mobility costs.
